AIR COLLISION

LINCOLN B2 SX957 (148 SQDN)

&

VAMPIRE FB5 VZ188 (213 SQDN)

11th MAY 1950

As Remembered By Dave Molyneux ex: Canal Zone Schoolboy

On the 11th May 1950 a Lincoln B2 SX957 from 148 Sqdn and a Vampire FB5 VZ188 from 213 Sqdn were taking part in a fighter affiliation exercise.

12 miles north east of RAF Fayid, the Vampire carried out a head on attack against the Lincoln but failed to pull away and they were involved in a head on collision. The Air Training Corps cadet listed was on a summer camp from the UK.

Those who lost their lives were:

(Lincoln B2)

Flying Officer A.K. McGrigor,

Flight Lt P.V. Jones DFC,

Flight Lt L.W. Archer,

Navigator II R.H.F. Buckler AFM,

Navigator II D. Mitchell,

Gunner II W.S. Fenion,

Gunner II G. Sherwood,

Gunner I T.J. Conaghan,

Gunner II P.G. Loubser,

Cadet Flight Sgt E. Bradnock ATC

(Vampire FB5)

Pilot II S. Dabrowski.

I consider that the circumstances of this young ATC cadet’s death should be suitably recorded, this being an aspect of the Canal Zone that has not been previously widely documented.
