The National Service Man

We didn’t save the world from Kaiser Bill
Nor later on from Hitlers will
A peace time force they said we were
But we fought wars that no-one had dared to declare

In deserts hot, and mountains cold
In skies above, and seas below
Where ‘trouble’ was, we had to go
Though not for us the victors wave
Just “go home Johnny” or a foreign grave

At Remembrance time we’ll stand with you
Veterans of World Wars One and Two
And of our lost comrades also say
“We will remember you”
