MEDAL - I GOT MINE TODAY

Here is a story I’ll tell ye in rhyme
I’ll start it as usual with once upon a time

A lad from the country came up to the smoke
To make himself rich – now that’s a sad joke.

They said that the army was a good job for him
Even if he was just a little bit dim

A smart uniform which the girls all adore
Good pay and good grub – who could want more

A huge drill instructor screamed rude things at he
And stated quite firmly he had no daddy

The friendship encountered in a warm barrack block
Stayed with him forever. No one could mock.

The years they rolled by, battles were won
Medals awarded, where have they gone?

Lost in a post tray miles away
Stop! Look it’s arrive! I’ve got mine today!
