A SQUADDIE STOOD AT HEAVENS GATE

A squaddie stood at Heavens Gate
His head was bowed and low
He asked the Master of the fate
And which way should he go

St. Peter asked “What have you done
That you may enter here?”
“I served in Suez” the squaddie said
“For many a weary year”

“Then choose your seat” St Peter said
“And your fears we will dispel.
For if you served in Suez,
You’ve spent your time in Hell”
