11th September, Completed.
Built by Harland & Wolf, Belfast, Yard No. 434, Tonnage 15,620 (GRT)
Length 589 feet. Beam 67.3 feet. Triple Screw. Steam Turbine, 17 knots
26th September. Maiden Voyage. Liverpool to Chile for Pacific Steam Navigation Co.
Then Southampton to La Plata for the Royal Mail Lines.

1915 April. Auxilary Cruiser for 10th Cruiser Squadron.
1916 February 29th The “Andes” and her sister ship “Alcantara” engaged the German Auxilary
Cruiser “GRIEF” between the Shetlands and the Norwegian Coast. The “Alcantara” and
the “Grief” were both sunk in the action. The “Andes” rescued survivors of both ships.
1919 4th November. First postwar voyage, Southampton to La Plata.
1930 Fitted out as a Cruise Liner in Liverpool. 450 1st Class passengers. Tonnage now 15,135
(GRT). Changed from coal to oil firing. Hull painted white. Now named “Atlantis”.
1939 September. Sold to the British Government and became a Hospital Ship under Royal Mail Lines management.
1948 Recontructed for Emigrant Service to Australia and New Zealand.
900 3rd Class passengers. Tonnage now 15,363 (GRT)
1951 December 31st Sailed from Liverpool, Algiers, Port Said and Suez Canal arriving Jan. 12th
1952 Sold for breaking up at Faslane.
Original accomodation in 1913 was – 1st Class 380, 2nd Class 250, 3rd Class 700.

Sailed from Liverpool, 19.50 hrs on the 31st December 1951. Re-fuelled at Algiers and arrived in Port Said on the 11th January 1952. Disembarked for Fanara on 12th January then onto 10 BOD Geneifa
