6(R) Sqdn RAF Regt El Hamra & Ismailia
As Remembered By John R Reed
IN THERE SOMEWHERE!
Air Marshal Sir
William Dickson, K.B.E., C.B., D.S.O., A.F.C.,
Inspects an RAF Regiment guard of honour before leaving Ismailia airfield en
route to the U.K.
He is taking up his new appointment as Air member for Supply and Organisation
on the Air Council.
I was recently having a sort out of some of my old belongings and came across this newspaper cutting. The event took place, I would think about the early part of 1950 at RAF Ismailia. The aircraft just visible is the C in C’s Dakota.
I know I am in the photo somewhere but after all these years I can’t even recall which of the two ranks I was in. All I know is that I must be in the middle of one of them as I was one of the shortest men on the squadron being 5’8” in my boots.
The officer out at the front of the
parade was Flying Officer May. The officer escorting the Air Marshall was Sqn
Ldr Carrington and the Sgt at the end of the front rank was Sergeant Parkes.
Maybe someone seeing this photo will recall being in the Guard of Honour themselves
and if so, I would like to hear from them.
