871 PLANT SQUADRON, RE 1947

I arrived in Fayid in November 1947 and saw for the first time the 'castle' entrance to the Prisoner of War Camp. 871 Plant Sqdn RE was based behind the POW camp and we had to pass through them to enter.
The Squadron was training people on mechanical equipment and then sending them to Kenya to clear the ground for a Government Scheme.
